Re: sandy straits and offshore wide bay
thanks mick..........cant wait mate to get up there..........as i dont have a map yet and am excited as hell.........can you tell me how long approx it would take from rainbow as this is where we a leaving from.....i take it all these creeks ungowa, jacks are lower on the map than the woody islands and kingfisher..........and am i also right in assuming that you CAN catch these trevors on the flats down this in that area and you can see them tailing.........mate i will sure let you and everyone else know how we go and if you happen to be around there at that time of year you can always call in for a cold one and hopefully a feed of fish and/or crab.........
cheers again guys

Re: sandy straits and offshore wide bay
Strongy's right I think god actually lives there. Last week Ungowa was alive with Tuna, Bonito, Trevs and Mackerel and if it blows up youve always got the Islands opposite. Dont go diving off the boat, big toothy critters also live there.

Re: sandy straits and offshore wide bay
Depending on the run of tide and thats critical to the speed of a houseboat you can usually get to yankee jack creek in about 5hrs and another 1/2hr to Ungowa and another 1 1/2to 2hrs to Kingfisher also depending on which house boat company you are using and i take it if your leaving from Rainbow you are with rainbowbeach house boats , absolutley top couple those people but the motors are set at 4000rpm on the boats , not a bad thing ,outboards last longer and he likes to look after his gear, you can tell by the condition of his boats there tops , other companys let them rev to 4800 so you are a bit slower, so use the tides . The boats all have maps and charts and they have all the good spots marked so you won`t have any trouble there. there are plenty of stops between rainbow and kingfisher and 2 weeks is not enough , . Oh between deep creek and Ungowa there`s about 30ft to 40ft depth of water so no ,no flats on the island side but great fishing. cheers Mick.

Re: sandy straits and offshore wide bay
if ur taking that 8m head up into platypus bay there a spot in 500 hot spots book called trevally alley might have to track around to find it but both occasions that i have been there we cleaned up a few GTs around the 1m mark for the smallest other than that stop at kingfisher and drop some slugs around the chains on the wave break an hang on,
cheers remember longtails are starting to run up there
