just a quick Q.. am new to the whole dolphin fish thing, but am very interested to pursue them. I have heard of them getting taken on fly's and lures. Where might be the prominent spots in moreton or off moreton to find these critters???
Any general pointers would be much appreciated...
Oh if SANDMAN is reading this g'day and nice meeting you in the bottlo - best of luck with those blacks!!
can't remember the last time i went out without finding them there ...
basics - sit up current from the wave rider , feed a pilchard out on a hook and then hit them
Too bloody easy ....livies take the best results though .
And yes , we have caught them on flies , soft plastics , slugs , minnows the whole shebang!
mmm that is interresting does anyone knoe what the restrictions are with fishing around the hmas and what species have you been seeing when diving out there
I have heard that you can get Dolphin Fish around the Compass Adjustment Beacon in the bay when they are on...
Trolling the small skirted lures will work for them very well. Also using a jig like the Jig Em Rigs (Or whatever they're called - The squid ones!) can work as well...
Try using livies out off straddie your success rate will improve 100%, the dolphins have been out there latley but have been pretty quiet and not takeing pillies as much as the livies.
PS - get there early as a fair few charter boats hit the wave ridder and clean up all the fish in the first few hours...
