    Live bait off Mooloolaba

Living on the south side of Brisbane, by the time I drive 2 1/2 hours, get on the water, start to look for live bait, the itch to get out further and start fishing is driving the deckie crazy, especially so if one still has a 1 1/2 hour trip still out to the banks. So after half an hour of looking for bait and another half an hour of jigging up a few undersize reef fish it is very difficult to argue the case to continue the elusive live bait search and one invariably ends up dead baiting the rest of the day which is not the original intention. One solution could be to get a new deckie, I know, but without resorting to such drastic measures (the deckie does not like this idea either) could someone please give me some advice on where to source livebait off Mooloolaba. Your generosity in this matter will be well rewarded.
    Thanks
    Sacman

Let me rephrase that last sentence.

'Your generosity in this matter will be well rewarded (by the deckie)'

hey sacman, i do a lot of fishing around mools and i usually get most of my livies in the river, around mc kenzies bridge and most bank will have ample supplies of herring, mullet hardy heads etc. there are also a lot of pike around the wharf, which usually come out at nite. we use drag nets and cast nets to collect our bait.
    hope that helps

    Sacman,
Could you pass on to the deckie that if she would like to spend an evening or two with me (anytime in the next 30-40 years) then i will consider catching her livebait for the rest of my life...
On a more serious note, usually there are pike at the end of the mooloolabah breakwalls, and we have caught a few yellowtail scads around the front of pt cartwright in fairly shallow water. (There are also plenty of goodsized grinners in this area... ) Look for some structure on the bottom.
    Cheers Fritzy
