another shot
Took father for a day out in the boat to give him a crack at some plastic fishing. Fished the runout tide in the river starting at the rock wall and working the bottom and edges in the channel. He pulled this massive grunter near the trawler spoil ground on 4" chartreuse. I'm interested to know if many others have encountered grunter that big in the river. What time of year, tide etc. Cheers Nick.
Where abouts is the trawler spoil ground? Looks like its somewhere out past fishermans island? Nice grunter - I've never seen one of any size in the Brissy. Very nice fish.
Nice fish well done what plastics?
The spoil grounds are 2nd or 3rd red past the end of the rock wall up in the shallows( 20 odd feet - not in channel) Powerbaits Sackrash
Got a 35cm grunter on a SP down the Pin about a 3 weeks ago.
Great fish very well done Love the SP"S
Cheers
nice photo ,good work buddy.
Nice fish Nick.
Apparently, there was a whole industry built around "grunter harvesting" in the River during the forties and 50's. Unfortunately the stocks were practically wiped out.
I have a particular spot just outside the river where I pulled this one last year. I've also pulled a few nice cod from the same spot and some more grunter, but this one is the biggest although all the others were still around 2 kilo.

Kev, what are you doing chasing quality eating fish? Was that by catch while chasing bull sharks?
