I've tried it before, if I'm desperate for fresh bait for shovelnose sharks or something like that. Apart from this and berley, I've never found much use for them. It's a pity there isn't a use, i could make a fortune.

everytime i go looking for livies around the bridges etc, without fail i'll get more butterbream that anything else, and i've always thrown them back, but last night i must of pulled in 40 odd of them over the space of an hour, and only one herring i got to thinking, is there actually a size limit on them and if not what kind of bait would they make, i mean working on the assumption bigger fish eat smaller fish there's have to be something that'd gnaw on them, then again i was getting frustrated with continually rerigging my jig, (i was down chinderah so the net was a no go) i checked the dpi and fisheries website and they don;t have them listed so i'm assuming it;s a goer, but thought i would just check with wiser heads than mine.

Fishing for the thrill, not for the kill
I haven't tried them, but I've heard they are a great live bait for big cod

strip baits for bream and so on
thanks for the replies, so i'm assuming there is no minimum size limit for them? i know the only real way to find out how good they are is to use them, so i'll let you know how i go, though knowing my luck i'll end up catching nothing but herring now

Ive used them when they did the same to my jigs. I caught one good bream on them and a smallish shark.
were you using bait on the jig? If you were, the butterbream will beat the herring to it everytime. Try stirring he school of herring up with berley and then jigging.
Matt
Ive tried em in the seaway, live, whole dead baits, & as strip baits...... no success.
This is not neccessarily an indication of their worth as bait & could also indicate that I am crap at fishing

HAve used them as strip baits for bream before... didnt have much luck though.
Cheers
Take them home live, convert them to freshwater and flog them off as Malaysian angel fish
I have acually seen them in a pet shop sold under that name.

How does that song go
" what are they good for,
Absolutely nothing"

I heard they were good as livebait for Jewies, obviously that isn't correct ????
Pelican food is about all they are good for.

HI,
This s Graham Rapala, I cannot seem to be able to contact you direct, so I have just looked for your name, on any topic on the chat board.
Thanks very much for your phone numbers I will give you a bell when I arrive. In answer to your question I would be more than happy to do any type of fishing, but would like to do some lure fishing if possible. All my life I have wanted to catch a Mangrove Jack but I do not know if they are on the coast.
At this moment it is freezing cold and raining like hell here, so I can't wait to fish in some warm water.
I really appreciate your offer.
Graham
I find they are good for burley , not that they attract much
