Thread: bad charter

    Re: bad charter

    Giday Robsee,
You know the feeling of being outgunned badly. I was on my own (with my girlfriend at the time) and there were two deckies and about ten of their mates. A real messy situation would have occurred had i said something then and there.
Thinking back on it what i should have done was written a letter to the company, explaining my concerns about the day. That is an interesting point RobSee, easy for me to stand here bagging them, but i haven't done anything to help them change for future customers. Thanks for helping me see it from a different view.
    Cheers Fritzy
PS. I guess for me the majority of my upset is about not getting a good explanation of what we were doing and why we were doing it. I feel that this should be something that is paramount when fishing on a charter boat. We should be told about how to rig up lines, bait lines, land fish, break off snags, the type of fish we may catch etc. etc. Then if we are having trouble doing something - we should get assistance in it - so that we may be able LEARN to do it INDEPENDENTLY - next time. I also think that the boat operators should outline what we can and cannot do, wrt cutting up bait, using different lines etc.
These are just my opinions and feelings on the matter - i understand that others will likely have different views and i am interested to hear them.

Having read most of the replies to this post, It's plain to me that any service industry should seek some customer feedback from time to time to se how they are performing and ways of improoving their buisness.

It would be good for the owner of the business to get this reality check rather than the day to day operator.

I too agree that the skipper should not fish, he should be controlling the boat. I went out with sea probe some months back and the skipper stayed on the fly bridge the whole time holding us over the spot so that we could fish longer. The deckie also co-ordinated everyone to ensure there were minimal tangles and also bled and killed the fish and put them on ice. The boat was fast and stable and never felt crowded for a 10m boat with 10 people on board. Whilst the deckie did fish, he fished only when there was an opportunity or when people were having a break from pulling up fish. I landed my first kingfish on my own outfit which was around 8kg, not huge but the biggest fish I had caught so far. Cant recommed them highly enough. we had a great day, even though our catch was below average every one went home with a feed.
