Broadwater Master Plan...

It all looks very nice, but I can't help thinking that we are going to lose the natural beauty of the Broadwater and get some glitzy, glam waterway made for boys with their bloody big toys.

I feel kind of depressed, but maybe I'm wrong - I hope so.

I have not had a great of it yet but the secound bridge will be well used to releave the heavy traffic that heads up toward south port. As for the the dredging from behind wave break in my opion it is needed.

I am not too sure about the opening up further of the seaway.
From the breif read I have had so far if all goes as planned we will lose the whole front along the eastern side of wave break which for me and the Missus has been one of our favourite spots for a swim and a snorkel.

Other than upgrading a current ramp, I didn't see any extra ramps to launch trailer boats!!

If the number of boats is expected to double where are the extra ramps & parking??

Well well, havent had a real goo dread of it from cover all teh way thru but just teh first few pages seem to show that not once is recreational fishing mentioned.

Fish teh braodwater and seaway all the time and have been informed form those assoc with the asve teh spirt thing that WHEn this terminal is built ALL recreational boats will NOT be allowed to be within teh seaway when any ship is in port. ie MOST OF THE BLOODY time.

If this does go ahead myself and a few mates will be moving North to find somewhere that wont be so restricted.

All I see is yet another situation where us as fisherman are being totally ignored and forgotten about.
Perhaps we should all stop putting our hard earned dollars into teh state economy an dse how much bloody money they have for all teh infastructure etc then.

Well pissed off with it all.

Luc, I think the point is that the types of boats that will be on the broadwater won't need a ramp, they will all be big cruisers that live at marinas.

Gone too will be the marine stadium, a spot that is great to anchor up and have a swim, sit on the beach or enjoy a cold beer from the back of your boat watching all the other boats bob around. It will all be replaced with boardwalks and marina bays.

I can see police boats and security vessells moving people on all the time, especially when a cruise ship is in harbour. Not sure what can be done about it, but I don't like it.

Turn the Gold Coast into Florida with all the Cruise Ships coming in with complete disregard for the estuary, which still looks pretty nice when the flood tide comes in with clean water. These people dont care - more money /more development/ more stress on an already stressed water way. Why cant these people just bloody well leave things alone??? Am I the only one who feels like this - everything they see - another bit of swamp / another bit of mangrove / a nice natural Island or sand island and they want to bugger it up. A good example is the devlopment that happened around Robina Woods Golf Course - I played there many times when the surrounds where pretty much wall to wall trees and some nice Sea Eagles living in the middle in some large Eucalypts - every last friggin tree gone in the name of progress. No sensitive development there I'm afraid.

Lobby hard people or you are going to get your place trashed in the name of devlopment and the council/councillors will still figure out a way to get their extra payments for the pro-development lobby groups.

Sh&thouse people - thats my opinion.

Have just read this and it is a BIG WORRY if it were to happen IMO - 6 million cubic meters of sand to be removed from broadwater to make way for a sailing race course???

Thought the cruise ship terminal would be bad enough but not once is the potential impact on fisheries mentioned let alone rec fishos.

This is just a wish list of vested interests such big boat builders, developers, tourism operators and the like. It cannot happen if enough people get off their arses and object when the time comes.

Olympic sailing course from wavebreak to the bridge!!! COME ON !!who are they trying to fool, have you seen the amount of traffic that area handles.

Build new islands for the northern Broadwater( I wonder which of the councillors/developers suggested that)

Its all about commercial access, wont it be a lovely place to go boating when its all one big commercial precinct/real estate developement ,,

never mind the natural environment we dont need that.

from a rec fishing point of view this whole plan is all negative

- the cruise ship terminal will limit the amount of access boats have to the seaway area

- the continual dredging of the seaway will surely disrupt fish that live and breed here (ie. flathead particuarly)

- the sand being pumped over Crab Island will surely destroy the masses of weed beds located here which are home to many fish (including flatties)

- the boat ramp at the Spit seems to have disappeared?

- do we really need more wake from big cruisers in the Broadwater?
