    Mate,

It's one of my top few parts of the world I love it up there. So far as the beach driving goes, people recommend that you avoid a few hours either side of the high, but so long as you take it easy up there you won't have any worries with the exception of passing the rocks further north at rainbow. Easiest way to know whether you can get around them is just to sit and wait for cars to pass them both ways. Don't rely on the locals - some of them will egg you on in the hope of a show. Stop by the Rainbow BP or Shell servos and check out the walls of pics.

Dunno what the weed would be linke up there at the moment with all the rubbish being washed out after the rain. Outside of the main tailor seanson, the main species i've seen being caught are flathead, whiting, dart & tailor..

    Hope this helps..

    Cheers,

Hey mate as grunta said try to drive around low tide, there is quite a bit of weed the whole way down as far as i know. Fish about are tailor, dart, bream whiting etc. You will see the gutters as you drive along the beach

I drove the beach as far as Double Island Point on Tuesday. Driving conditions were good with the beach nice and wide at the moment. Anytime from half tide down would be good for easy travelling. I did not fish, just took the missus for the drive to check out the camp sites (I'm going up for a week before Christmas). Patches of weed were visible all the way from Double Island Point down to third cutting, but it looked like it would be fairly easy to find some clear water. No pipis were visible on the dry sand (as there usually are) but there were plenty on the edge of the water at low tide. It shouldn't take more than about ten minutes to get your 50 limit. I prefer surf worms as the best bait in the gutters, and there are always plenty on this beach. There are good gutters the full length of the beach, so finding a place to fish is not hard. Likely fish are dart, tarwhine, bream and whiting in the gutters, with the odd flathead, and tailor around dawn and dusk. I also intend to look for a jew with a big bait in the gutters after dark. There are heaps of birds working just outside the break, so there are some pelagics just out of reach at the moment. If you get a nice calm day they may be reachable with a good cast on a chrome lure at low tide if you wade through the gutters to the outer banks - I'll ceratinly be having a shot at them if possible.
    Cheers Freeeedom
