thats right jakester some good bills come from the grounds of coffs each year. while catching spaniards north of coffs a few years back we saw a big marlin jump @ 1/2 a klick away from our boat and let me tell you it was not a trench baby either.
Foodchucker,
I'm from down there, I usually just go after snapper in close. How wide are they going for their marlin...just curious.

GO THE CRUISER UTES!
....OH WHAT A FEELING!
Just south of you at Urunga, see a few every year but the blokes down at hatb Head and south West Rocks are always into them especially around mackeral season, hope this one is as good as last year. Just can't get any slimys yet - only yakkas and the mackys just don't seem to want them these days.
There are some big marlin in that area, from minnie waters to south of hat head. Have had marlin eye ball the boat when we were anchored over a school of tailor, and one of which was massive. Seen them free swimming when chasing mackies or heading to outside reefs.
Heard alot of stories of 5-6footers being taken off coffs on the close north reefs. I dont think they're in large enough numbers to specifically target but if you are curious about it, putting a larger pakula or something in your spread for macks might be an idea. (dont no about survival rate of the lure tho

A bloke i work with just got back from hat head and had some great pics of a couple of bills and good wahoo as well.
