Land based or boat????
Off to jacobs well for the first time 17th@18th of FEB with some mates of mine from up north and was wondering the best spots to start to collect bait and some good fishing spots.Any help would be great.Thanks.
Land based or boat????
If you head right from the jacobs well boat ramp you will find a couple of good yabbie banks a few hundred metres down the channel. Cast netting of these banks will usually produce a few good herring. Either of these two baits are ideal for this area. All you need to do is find a good gutter or similar next to a sandbank and you should catch a few bream/whiting/flatty.
get some yabb's off the sand bank but also pick up a packet of wa pilly's and head right form the ramp and keep following the channel to the pin if you sit off the tip of Crusoe island there is a sorta ledge that has 1 mtr on one side and drop's to the main channel on the other, good spot for bream and flatties but also have caught tailor, treavally, and a sh*t load of others even some unexpected fish.
Cheers Chris
may you get a bend in your rod and your esky open often
Thanks guys we will have 2 boats so can go anywhere. Thanks for the help.
Guys what is the bestway to the pin, thru whalleys gutter and tiger mullet channel or to the right of gold bank.????????
Grab a copy of the Beacon to Beacon directory, usually available from most newsagencies/tackleshops etc and follow the red lines There are a host of different ways to get to the Pin from either Jacob's Well or Cabbage Tree Point with some remarkable fishing spots along the way!
This older post may help you out a bit too: http://www.ausfish.com.au/cgi-ausfis...1131238516/7#7
Best to go through Whalleys.....Gold Bank is very shallow at low tide
There are some good fishing and crabbing spots through Whalleys if your'e there on a quiet day (weekday) as well
When coming out of Whalleys you will hit the "five ways" - there are some deep holes through there that can contain anything, even jewies at the right times. Tiger mullet at low tide has yabby opportunities on both sides, Green Bank and Gold Bank, good whiting and flatties.
From tiger mullet you can go through McKenzie's to get to the north side of Crusoe Is , Short Is and Kalinga Bank......all good spots

JACOBS WELL............. didn't know he was sick
Rainbow Trout is NOT skittle flavoured fish.........
Hey BREAMKING
the boat ramp at jacobs well has a fair bit of bait if you have a cast net or jig. Plenty of herring, pike in the mornin and decent sized mullet you can use for strip bait. I've caught some decent prawns off here too. If theres no bait around the jetty then theres a kiddy's swim zone thing a bit further up on the right. Use only in the mornin for obvious reasons. I've caught some big mullet in there.
Theres also a fair few hardi head schools in the pin bar that push up to the bank sometimes. Opposite Kalinga Bank.
Catch a few herring for live bait and fish round tip of crusoe or kalinga bank and you might catch a few.
Goodluck.
Cheers
Are you thinking of going out over the pin bar?
