    Bargara Info

    Hi All,

I'm looking into a week's holiday up at Bargara. It looks a nice place, but the clincher would be boat ramp/boating prospects...is anyone familiar enough with the place to make comment?

    Is the fishing any good?

Is there anywhere else I should look instead?...I need a reasonably comfortable resort, on the beach and with a pool, but also boat parking. Any other options you can think of?

    Thanks in advance,
    Mike

great place mike. plenty of accom. there. as for the fishing, i'd be looking at going north to either the kolan or the baffle. some great spots in each! be wary of the rocky structure upstream in the baffle as many a prop has come unstuck on em. you could also try the elliot river, which is just south of bargara. all systems have ramps that are easily located on maps etc. also littabella creek which is north - great jack nursery that girl! so yeah, plenty of fishing options. you could even give the ole burnett a go, but i'd be trying the others first. great beach called kelly's at bargara for the kids etc to hang out as well. anyway have a ball mate - great country there!

    Thanks mate,

I'm booked into Kelly's Beach Resort for a week at Easter, but it's just me & the 6yo so the boat isn't going. I'll do a bit of a reco though...

I'm looking at taking the wife too around Christmas, so need to book something fairly soon. I didn't want to make a booking on spec, tow the boat up, and then find I've got a decent drive before finding a good ramp.

It looks like there's a good sheltered ramp at Burnett Heads, but what's the ramp at Bargara itself like? Any other decent ramps close to Bargara (the wife likes a holiday where she spends as little time as possible in the car)?

    Thanks again,
    Mike

    Mike,

The ramp at Bargara itself is situated right on the esplanade at Bargara. As you turn right to head towards the golf course and the majority of the accomodation there, you will come to a roundabout, and the ramp is just off on your left there. Basically the ramp leads onto a small sheltered beach from which you launch. Car/trailer is then run back up the beach. From Bargara, Elliott Heads is only about a 10-15 min run South, and there is a good ramp there. If you like hitting little white balls and then going to find them, put the sticks in as well because there are a couple of good courses within 15 mins of there as well.

The fishing off the rocks out the front between Bagara & Monropoe can be very good as well. Seen some big Trevally pulled from there, as well as all the tasty shallow reefies. Don't discount the Burnett either... A mate of mine caught a good few barra in there not too long ago

It's a beautiful part of the countryside there... Spent many many Xmas/New Years there growing up.

    Mike,

It depends on what you mean by not having to spend to much time in the car. The baffle would be about 75k from Bargara and the Kolan a little closer approx 60k.

The Elliot and the Burnett would both be within 15 mins of Bargara. The ramp at Burnett heads is a 4 lane all weather ramp which when I was last there approx 15 months ago was a little slippery at dead low but that is fairly common of most ramps.

The ramp at the Elliot is actually at riverview and it is a good 2 lane ramp into deep water.

Other than the Burnett all the rivers in this area require a bit of common sense as they can not only be very shallow but also rather rocky.

All sorts of Fish can be caught in the area, a post back closer to the time of the trip should get you some more current knowledge.
    Cheers

If you have a reasonable size boat give the art reef just off elliot heads a go. Have fun plenty of options around here.

    hey 2iar

mate the boat ramp at BARGARA is good . seen blokes with 8hp go out to the 2 mile reef off BARGARA which you catch spotties, spanish ,trevally and cobia. Also the causway is good at times ive caught BARRA YES BARRA and my biggest jack which went 50cm out of there ,both on lures .fish the dirty side not the ocean side .tides have to be big so there's salt running into the other side of the causway .went there the other day on the big highs could of thrown my cast net over 2 BARRA a meter long they wern't interested at all in any of my lures that day .

    cheers mal

    Re: Bargara Info

I wouldnt recomend using the Elliot Heads ramp at all, bloody pain in the A$$. Best ramp for the Elliot River is the one at RiverVeiw , concrete, double lane, drops into deep water. The mouth of the Elliot has changed abit and getting a bit shallow but if you sneak out the mouth you could hit the "arty" or the coonar 4 mile. The top of the Elliot has seen some good crabs of late with me taking 8 over night. worth putting in the cast net also. get up the top on a decent tide...above "Fallons rocks" and "Sharks nest" have produced some good prawning.

    Re: Bargara Info

    Hi Mike,
I live at Bargara so let us know before you come and I'll give you an
update on fishing, lately I've been getting a few prawns and went out to the Coonarr
4 mile reef a few weeks back, before the wind started and got Mackerel, Tuna, Amberjack,Trevally etc. There are plenty of options around here all in close range, even Lake Monduran, is just over an hours drive from Bargara, if you are after Barramundi. Bargara is a great place to stay
and try the Bargara Beach Hotel and Pub or KC's for a meal.

Its been extremely windy lately so you just have to find a place in one of the creeks for shelter,
on a good day theres a spot on Kellys Beach where I've caught some nice flathead on soft plastics.
And if you want to hand feed some big bream and other fish with bread go down to the "Basin "on Kelly's beach, you are not allowed to catch them though!

Hey Gaffit are you talking about the causeway at Bargara? I always drive past and laugh at people that fish in there, didn't think there were fish in there, although someone I know caught a jack on sp in there.

    Re: Bargara Info

    Thanks heaps Powderfingers.

We're thinking of booking somewhere up there for Christmas, now that it looks like the boat won't be a problem. It's a 4.6m glass boat so it looks like there are a few options around.

In the meantime, I'm booked in to Kelly's Beach Resort for 4 days at Easter with my 6 year old son, so the boat won't be coming up, but I'll do a bit of a reco. It looks a top little place.

If you're around at Christmas, I'll buy you afew drinks at the pub in exchange for some marks

    Thanks again,
    Mike
