Rec Funded Fads

An incident that has happened lately has me thinking about the merits of Fads that are funded out of the Rec fishing trust.Evans Head recently had a FAD located on a piece of reef out near the 32 fathom line and it was producing a feed of rat Kings and Dollies for those that ventured out,Enter the commercial fisherman,one in particular hammered the thing on and off draging about eighty kilos of fish a day of it,and quoting the sign on it to all and sundry that states"Your Rec Fishing License At Work" while having a good belly laugh,well his little follie was short lived because another commercial fisherman local to the area allegedly decided it was to close to "his" Jew spot so he organised a larger commercial boat to tow it out to a spot unknown.So what we have now is a fad that was paid for out of rec funds probably producing fish for commercial fishermen,in a new location that is known only to the people who put it there.

That sounds like a theif to me reather than a pro. Some times the distinction becomes blurred.

I know what you mean, our new FAD in Ballina is just fodder for the new charter bloke, ( he does n't know where else to go ).
Dont think I'd pay $150 just to catch dollies.

Had heard that the fad at Evans had been towed, was keen to get out there and have a fish but when the opportunity arose it seemed to have disappeared. Does the fad still exist or was it the one mono picked up at Brusnwick before christmas. Spose the only consolation is knowing that the original position of the fad wsas reasonably close to a good jew hole!
Spend a bit of time sounding around and I might stumble on that.

Thanks Muzz, ended up at Evans and sat in line at the bar for 45 minutes with 6 other boats before the fog lifted enough to get out. Ended the day with several small kings all released, a dozen or so small dolly's all but 2 badly hooked were released and 6 stripe tuna all in the freezer for snapper bait.

Banshee the Evans FAD is still at the co-ordinates I picked up from DPI and seems to be doing its job. As I said earlier I had heard that it had been moved but not sure if thats the case. If it was moved some nice person has moved it back!

G'day Stonecold,I heard saturday morning that some one came across it a couple of weeks back and reported it's new position to fisheries so they must have returned it,atleast now that blokes jew mark should be easier to find.

I did have a quick scout around for promising looking country while I was there yesterday but I was more intent on the surface fish and didnt pay it the attention I should have.

Mike it is Monday and I am in the office rather than fishing so I can fully understand why you are slow this morning. Bit that way myself!

unfortunately we have one pro that thinks that all the fish in Evans Head are his and heaven help you if you are on his mark you will know his wraith, most fishers are feed up with this fool but he has no hide and no end of telling him to piss off works as far as i know he has moved the FAD (fish attracting device)
three times he has been put in to Fisheries far as i know but have no idear if they have spoke to him yet will keep you posted

That particular pro will find someone that will call his bluff one day. Thats not a threat thats the way the universe works. Its a game of statistics much like playing lotto. The more times you make an ar#e of yourself the more chance you have of getting kicked. Maybe he's not a bluffing, maybe he's deadly serious. Whichever way it goes the world is becoming a place where more and more people refuse to take sh#t from fools.

I thought it was a different bloke to the one who races up to people and threatens to "Blow a f***ing hole through your motor" if you venture to close to his traps or marks?I even had one of these idiots try and convince me that "us pros have got right of way on the ramp",they are definately a type unto their own down here.

its called this is my town piss off had wittnessed one pro giving one poor guy what for at the boat ramp and when i wrote article in BnB he rang me up when BnB hit stands that month said he should of handeled it a bit better i replyed everyone has equal rights at sea not your domain but the pro with FAD is from another country and lives near me that should narrow it down for the guy's in the know
