Has anyone been getting any prawns around Jacobs Well, Cabbage Tree and up the rivers.

If anybody's getting any, they're keeping it very quiet. I don't think there are actually many around yet, maybe with all this rain and the next new moon????

Last Sunday there were dozens of small boats up Pine River, on the west side of the motorway bridge, I went past at 100 on the Bike so I couldn't see much of what they were up to, ie whether they all were fishing with rods or throwing nets.

Gotta be something there to be so many boats, and it is an area that gets prawn action, so MAYBE ?

I tried the usual spots in the Pine River on Tuesday for about a dozen prawns- hardly enough for a live bait session. There were a few others trying but eveyone was moving around and no one was getting many. I'll try again next week

I tried the Logan on Sunday for a few greasies. The Trawlers and a few tinnies were working the hole near the highway bridge on the Pine today

a mate went to pine river the other week and bagged a few kilos of prawns at that hole there

The prawns are where you find them at the moment, and they aint that easy to find right now. Just because there is alot of boats in an area throwing nets doesn't mean there are prawns there. You can pull up anywhere on the Pine at the moment and start throwing a net and sooner rather that later you will have another couple of boofheads throwing right beside you.

i usually just cruise around in the tinny until see some skipping around then try there, if theres none then keep cruising, the hole in the pine is overated, IMO your better off taking the next left upstream and about 100m up against the grassy bank is usually good

Thanks Rob, thats a good tip, I hate trying to fish / cast a net when there are a heap of people around, it makes for hard work and inevitably some tosser will try to fish in your pocket !

Last year wasn't "brilliant" for prawns, lets hope this year is better

Hi All,
I have just bought a cast net and learnt how to throw it after much frustration and am very keen to get onto some prawns. I have heard that the Pine River is a good place, but I also head up to Bribie and fish the Pumistone a fair bit. What is the best time of day to go for prawns and what sort of environment do I look for?? Is day or night better, and if night what moon is better??

Any tips or advice for a beginner would be greatly appreciated.

i have found day times to be better. best in new moon and calm water near shallow waters. good luck....

Hi fellas, my first post and to be honest i'm not much of a fisherman, in fact I don't even have a boat. I was casting off the bank today (back of Kreidemann farms there somewhere) I managed to get a dozen max. I also found my cast net I threw in the drink last saturday.Less than a foot from where I threw it. But the news gets better- there was a big king tiger prawn(it was alive) in it ,about 10 inches long, he he. anyway reason I'm posting is- Whilst casting off the bank a friend and his son came past on the tinnie they both had there bag limit of good sized bananas. Unfortunately not having a boat, I wasn't paying attention to the location of the area, however I know he said it was in 8 metres of water and something about a red beacon somewhere and out towards jumpinpin. I'm sorry I wasn't listening well. It might have been the cold cans of bundy in his esky that were covered in banana prawns anyway, he said he was getting as many as twenty prawns in a throw, and two other boats were there too. Pardon my ignorance but does this mean the prawns are working there way up to the river? and we can get ready for them soon? Any way thats all I can add, have a nice day.

I haven't been looking for the prawns yet this year (been too busy chasing Jacks) - probably still a touch early. I have heard the usual reports of a few boats in around Horizon Shores but not getting too many.

Last year was a total write-off, lets hope this year is better. We have had reasonable rain at times.

Will let you know if I hear anything.
