    Fish ID please - Vermin

Caught this little bugger off seal rocks.
Can't find a match for him.
Didn't like the look of the spines on his pectoral fins
    cheers,

I'm pretty sure it's not a stone fish, but I'm not sure what it is. Looks like it may be related to the cod family???

    Cheers

He is one ugly looking alien. Certainly not a stone fish and can't say I have ever caught anything like it. Those side fins? / spines in front of the pectoral look nasty Only thing I can think of was I saw a pic of a goblin fish that from memory was kind of similar but was more boney.

I thought about shipping him down to you Kev.
Figured when you'd finished eating it, you could pick your teeth with the spine

Nearest pick I can find is some sort of frog fish, but the colouration and mouth are a bit different on the pics I've found.

Also don't get a clear look at the spines.

I caught a fish just like it in WA a few months back. I found it in a book somewhere at the time, let me think about it.
In case you're wondering it wasnt edible, even by Kingtin.
