many plants invertebrates in the sea posess bioluminescence & phosphoresence - you see the result all the time of plants in the wake of your boat of on the surf line. Species of squid, prawn, jellies & plankton etc - Perhaps predators recognise it as a sign of movement or it simply becomes something worth investigating.
Humans are attracted to flouroesence - take the golden arches for example ...
even though we KNOW no food exists there.
Perhaps I should have been a little more concise. I'm not aware of the prawns and spieces of fish, commonly used for bait, glow. At least I haven't seen them glow, but I will gladly stand corrected if they do.
But it is well known that lures catch more fishermen than fish ... for what ever gimick/attraction they may have.
Whiting and Dart Fishing Woorim beach on Bribie Island QLD the red tube definitely works well, many a time I have been using it and have been the only fisherman catching amongst the crowd-who are usually scratching their heads and asking me what bait I'm using.Jace.
when i'm chasing whiting for live bait i allways use a red tube (make my own out from the insulated cover on electrical wire ) i get quicker results than when i don't use it
I found that fishing in very shallow water around Lake Macquarie where there is weed that the bead appears to work. I use a small sinker above the swivel and the bead as a runner to the hook. When the worms are all but stuffed, this give the fish something to see other than a dead, non-wriggling worm. Even the misus agrees as she still has me pegged with a 42cm boof headed fella that was 170g heavier than my 43.5cm.
When targeting whiting i always use it. I find i get more whiting then other fish like bream etc which is good when youre only chasing whiting fillets for tea.
