They're more commonly called Ray's Bream. I've never caught one, apparently quite common though throughout the world if you can get down 500m plus.
    Where did yours come from?

Pretty sure its called RAYS bream (not raised).

You're right - it's not easy to find out much about them. there are two fish it might be - either Rays Bream or Southern Rays bream

One of these is Brama Brama and the other is Brama Australis. Both part of the pomfrey family I think. That might help you find out more about them.

They sometimes come in as bycatch at the Ballina Big Pineapple fish shop. I think they are very deep dwellers. How deep and where do you fish for them

    FWIW

    Definitely Rays bream

    Definitely deep water dwellers.

We used to catch them on the droplines ... in 400 - 500 m of water off the shelf in Tassie.

They are also prevalent in Qld, with the tuna longliners getting them on the longlines as well.

Quite nice eating ... very similar to bream or squire ... they just dont have quite as "sweet" a taste.

    Cheers

Caught in deep water off shelf, on live bait. About 300 meters.
    caught a few.
Probably my fault getting the name wrong from rays bream to raised.

Pete. ( Grand Marlin) eat one of these over squire or bream anytime imo I thought it was extra good, but I love little samson which seem to be down on most peoples favorites.
    Thanks for replies.
