    Accurate Weather prediction

    Greetings Ausfishers
I have been looking at the BOUYWEATHER.COM site and at this stage they are predicting a fairly good day on Thursday eg fairly light winds up to 12 knots however the BOM is saying 15 to 20 knots. I am trying to organise a trip to the Banks and need a few days notice with accurate predictioon. Has anyone got a better site for accurate weather forcast more than a couple of days ahead??

    Cheers John

Seabreeze.com.au is another good web site but suggest getting as much info as possible before making your decision.

    Re: Accurate Weather prediction

It's always good to get a nice forecast for going offshore. But one thing I always do before going heading wide is just check the live and historical wind readings all the way up the coast. If I'm going off shore from Mooloolaba I check Cape Moreton, SpitFire Channel, Maroochydore and Double Island. What I look for is consistant low wind speed in all the areas. Goto the new wind speed viewer at BOM.

    http://www.bom.gov.au/products/IDQ60700.shtml

Some stations record half hourly, some hourly and some 3 times a day. Generally all the local brisbane and sunshine coast stations record hourly or half hourly. Just gives you another way of checking just before you head out the door. Nothing worse than getting out of the heads and feeling a nice 15kts of wind in your face. Hope this helps.

    Re: Accurate Weather prediction

Seabreeze and Buoyweather always seem to be pretty optomistic.

For example: At the moment there's a Cyclone heading for Cairns.

The BOM forecasts the wind for Monday at 40 to 50 knots!

Seabreeze says it's going to be 5 to 10.

Buoyweather is backing 6 to 11.

They can't all be right. As far as I know they predict the weather by sticking pins in a map whilst blindfolded, in the stylings of a classic game of pin the tail on the donkey.

    cheers,

    steve
