Moreton Bay Virgin
Got my new boat (4.6 mtr) . I know Jumpinpin fairly well but I'm wanting to learn/experiment a little further north in the bay area. Is Macleay Island a good way to start (safety & catch a feed)?????
The wife & I have regularly been catching bread & butter species but we think it's time to try something a bit different. Read here about the sweetlip & squire around Macleay & keen to give it a go.
Any advice folks? Anything is greatly accepted.

Gidday Coxy,
Exciting times ahead for you I am sure! I see that you are being tempted to give the plastics a go by your responses to Aquarius amoungst others, and his advice is spot on for bringing home a feed of snapper.
If you start by predicting which way the wind is going to blow on your return trip, that will make all the difference in your boat. Mine is 4.3mtr (similar), so a following sea from Harry Aitkenson artificial reef was my training ground on SP's. It's about 20 mins out from Manly, and if it is a N/NE afternoon seabreeze forcast, it can blow fairly stiff and you won't have any worries. Try drifting around the shallow edges of Harries, you won't be able to drift through on a weekend day for all the others anchored there. But I still caught good feeds, anchored using plastics, just cast up current. If that's too far, try potts point and some of the contours between there and Coochie with Victoria point as your launching ramp.
Peel Island is another, but study maps of the green (no go) zones before fishing the shallows there.
Good Luck
