royal national park hotspots
heading away for a few days- anyone got any tips for great rock spots in the R.N.Park? doesn't matter if it's a good walk in- I have lots of camping gear as well- or are you all out fishing?

Re: royal national park hotspots
I'm assuming you are talking about the RNP in the Sutherland Shire...
There are plenty of good spots there. Nearly everywhere along that coast is good fishing if you can get to the waters edge. The whole coastline is pretty much big cliffs, however you can get to quite a lot of spots. I grew up down there, and fished a fair bit of it.
Along the caostline you will get bream, pigs, snapper, mackeral, trevally, kingies, etc. Big rock fishing rods are the way to go as you are fishing on very rough and very dangerous areas. BE VERY CAREFUL!!!! It's hard to get help there, and you don't want to risk your life. Floating out live baits is the best option for the big boys. You can usually find alot of bait on the rocks (crabs, cunji, etc) to use in closer for the smaller fish. Remember - The fish are there for food, so the food is there. Find the food & you will catch the fish.
There are also apparently a lot of good freshwater fish in the Audley river (Although I only ever fished the salt side). The further south you go, the better it gets.
You can do a 5 day hike throught the Park which follows along the coastline & goes from Bundeen down to Stanwell Tops (There is also a 2 or 3 day version). I did the 5 day one, but took 3 weeks to do it, and fished the whole way. I made sure I only took limited food (Enough for 8 days), so that I had to catch fish to stay longer. When you have to catch them, it's suprising what you will try... And when it pays off, you find out just a little bit more about them
It is a specatcular part of the countryside, and you will never find the same things anywhere else. Make sure you take LOTS of pictures, cause it is beautiful. Enjoy yourself, but please be very careful. There are LOTS of snakes in there!

Burning Palms has great fishing! You used to be able to camp there, but I don't think you can anymore... (At least not legally *-) )
Definately give it a go! It's a LONG hike in (Several hours) but it's worth it!
