    Re: Dollies

There are a surface feeding fish, so trolling skirted lures, fishing with livies or floating dead baits in a burley trail all work. #The easiest way it to put out a burley trail and send out a floated dead bait or a livie, or both. #

They also like to hang around floating objects, so it you find one, slow troll a pilly past it and see if you can tempt them.

    Cheers,

    G'day...
I'll second that. Floating objects are the best bet. Any kind of deris.

I got some derris dust in the shed -- do you just use it like burley?

swim a livie out, not too far out, near "deris" if possible. Keep one rod baited with another livie for when you get the dorado to the boat. They usually swim in pairs. As soon as you see the one, at the boat, drop the other bait overboard. You're likely to get a second hook up almost immediately.

Also try fast trawling skirts / plastics through the area, turn and come back again - at least five /six times. Still keep a rod baited / fly rod at hand.

    Re: Dollies

I am not sure about your neck of the woods, but we get a run here in the west each year and the absolute gun bait is live herring (tommy ruff?). They can't resist them most of the time and we don't head out wide to the fads untill we have caught enough herring for a good session. If the bite shuts down or doesn't happen we troll small skirted lures and fizzer type heads as well. I have caught some smaller specimens on a shallow diving yozuri minnow (red/pink upper and white underneath with mirror taped flanks), but this is the last resort and hasn't always been successfull.

    Hope it helps???

    Re: Dollies

another way to get then is to cast some sulgs out at them like you mackmauler slugs
we do that a fir bit for sport useing gear as light as 6lb
only problem is that you can send them down deep easyer if they are not in the feeding mood however when they are free jumping and feeding it is next to imposable to put the dollies off
