    Moreton Island Fishing

    Guys
Some mates and I have a long weekend trip to Moreton Island coming up in early April. #I have never been there so was hoping I could get some advice on where the best places to fish are. #We will have a couple of 4WD's. #I also got a yabbie pump for Christmas .... so is there anywhere on the island to pump yabbies?

Moreton can offer you a very diverse range of fishing. Hopefully by the start of April the tailor will have come on so I would think that they would be your best target species. Anywhere from Comboyuro Point through to North Point and down the gutters on the eastern beach would be your picks.
Find Dog Ck between Comboyuro Pt and Yellow patch and you will get yabbies here at low tide. Or also at Kooringal if you are down the southern end.

You can be garunteed a shovelly or two on dusk anywhere on the iside or northern end of the island as well. Great sport and firm white flesh! There is also the typical esturay style fish caught anywhere on the western side.

Squid from the weed banks in fron of the Cowan residences, on an incoming tide a decent cast will get you out to them, although it's much easier picking them up by drifting over them.

Snapper off the rocks below the lighthouse although I would not attempt this unless you were quite adept at rock fishing. Tailor from the rocks on the southern point of Honeymoon Bay.

Had a couple of nights over there 2 weekends ago in the howling winds.....fished the area from Yellow Patch through to Honeymoon bay however the winds were atrocious. Got a mixed bag of bream, tailor, longtom, whiting, hangover, shovelnose and dart.

Is one of the best spots within 4 hrs drive to get away and do what we just have to do!

All the best and I hope you enjoy it. You can't go wrong if you take a full fridge over and just sit back and relax!!

    Cheers

    Rhetly's given great advice hear.

Another couple of spots off the rocks are the Caves around from Honeymoon Bay (get back before the tide as it's a tough trek the hight up you have to travel), and the Rod Holders around from Harper's - it's not worth the herat attck on return up the dunes to Boulders Beach or the Fingers in my opinion.

There's pretty much always a productive gutter at the Southern edge of Spitfire Creek on the ocean side, otherwise just take a drive down the beach and you should find your own gutter. Pippi's and worms can be collected there too.

    Good luck,
    Mike

A few years ago when i was a bit younger and eager and stupid i went for a snorkel out off the rocks at north point, the size of some of the snapper in such shallow water was astounding, i came back to shore with a smile on my face and more than i kilo of sinkers and metal jigs etc.
