Any info on Balgal beach??
Am thinking of heading to balgal beach soon? What I would like to know is baits to use and any reasonable spots and what is on offer.
Cheers

Take some insect repellant, but there are some nice spots there. You can access the creek a bit upstream of fishermen's landing via an offroad track. There is a good bank there which is good for bait and fish. Lots of jacks and flathead. A bit difficult to explain, but not too hard to find if you have a look around. Upstram in the creek is better than in front of the shop where everyone seems to fish. The creek really doesn't go up far, so if going by boat be very careful.
I haven't done much fishing along the beach but have regularly seen people dragging nets and illegally keeping good flathead and whiting.

I used to fish there a loooooong time ago. The flats out the front and north of balgal used produce excellent whiting and very big bream. Last time I was there(5 yrs ago) it was lousy with catfish and undersized grunter. Caught an undersized jack off the boat ramp though.
My best tip for the area is this: The shop makes excellent hamburgers!!!!!

Stacks of quality fishing at Balgal ... and like everywhere else, you've gotta know where to go. Last Saturday a large Barra was caught in front of the shop. This happens on a regular basis. Usually someone with a pillie fishing for anything. The place can get a bit busy but the locals tend to get a good feed.
