    Stocking up the brizzy rivedr

    hey anglers
Would it be a great idea to stock up the brisbane river with all the fish it had 50yrs ago.
The brizzy rivers full of catfish and if they stocked it up with bream flathead jack whiting ECT im sure the catfish pop would not be as big.
Does any one no who to ask for this kind of thing to happen?

Years ago the br4isbane river was mostly fresh, most of the species mentioned were only right down at the mouth. Dredging over the years has allowed the salt upstream.

Just look at all the old photo's there is not a mangrove to be seen upriver from Bulimba.

Having said that, stocking is a noble idea, but salt fish will just bugger off to better conditions, most stockings are into areas the fish can not get out of.

Also the catties would probably love the feed of fingerlings!

True , 17 Mile Rocks used to stretch right across the river and would only allow salty water upstream at high tide till some one dynamited a great hole in the ledge. Mullet used to be the most common fish species, still a lot in there also a lot more bream than you would think.
But nowadays catfish and bull sharks have taken over.
