Am heading up to Maroochy for a week in a few days.
I am not familiar with fishing spots anywhere in the river or outside. Is it possible to get out through the river mouth or do you need to come out of Mooloolba?
We are staying on the Mudjimba side of the river mouth, where is the closet ramp to launch a 5m alloy boat?
I have heard of a few holes along the river? Not after co-ordinates, although I won't say no but would really appreciate a few ideas?
I presume there are yabbies to be pumped at low tide?
Is it worth trying to get outside for a troll around the island out the front or even if there is reef that we don't have to spend an hour to get to. I am on a work shindig to 'learn how to hug trees without offending people' so I don't have the opportunity to skive off for a decent session. Just a few hours in the arvo/evenings.
Hey
I know that under the highway bridge in the maroochy river is a good spot. Supposed to be pretty deep..
Ummm... not sure about offshore stuff, When I was there for a week, we fished the river mouth alot for some big bream and flatties..
plenty of yabbies can be pumped around the maroochy river. plenty of good whiting and lizards to be caught on them fish any likely looking bit of water from the motor way bridge to the river mouth and your a good chance.
there is a few close reefs, but you are much better off getting to these via the mooloolah river. closest boat ramp is at the coast gaurd on parkyn parade in mooloolaba.
The bay at mooloolaba has plenty of tuna at this time of year.
You can put the boat in at black banks, end of nojoor rd twin waters or
Muller park just of the david low way at Bli Bli.
Twin waters = sand ramp and car park
Bli Bli = cement ramp and carpark
You will have not problem at either location launching your boat.
you can pump yabbies close to both ramps at low tide.
Hey
When i was fishing the mouth we were using pilchards as bait...(Hadnt found out how good SPs were) And we were landbased..
Yeh the Maroochy has a lot of really good spots, especially for flathead. There are alot of nice areas that should produce..
Try at the mouth of the creeks with SPs...
the island across from bandyanah towers has loads of yabbies... u should be able to see the sign of the hotel from the water. Kangaroo Is i think its called
There is hole called the Cod Hole, pretty much under the Motorway bridge, every man and his dog fishs there, but it still manages to produce especially if you are prepared to sit there all night with some live bait down.
I would not attempt to cross the bar at the mouth of the Maroochy river.
Not worth risking your life when you can drive around to Mooloolaba.
this time last year we took flattys to68cm and put back 2 big girls over 70 that all fell to plastics worked along a drop off near the jet ski area.also lost a unstopable that my mate hooked up on a live herring near a snag in the same area so i give thumbs up for the marooch. enjoy it is a great water way.
yeah if u wanna go out side head inner nerings of maloolabah /old women and float some slimminies if u can get them or some yakkat or if u cant get them pike if u float them out the bac wif the current no lead u should pic up some if your on the good reef
wat size boat u got if ur willing to spend a good trip to a good spot fish the outer sides of the banks wif big bummper bars jig them u wiill produce goods out at the banks
big snapper, kingings, dolphins and through dow a bottom bouncer and u could pic up some good reefies
You have been, as usual, more than helpful and a wealth of knowledge!
I look forward to giving the river a go for a few of those flatties.......they are right up my alley!!
Can anyone give me any info on the condition of the boat ramp on nojoor rd. (Nth side of the river towards the mouth) Is it possible to launch a 5m boat there?
Rhetly
I have launched my 4.45 tinny there no problem and can not see any issues with a 5m boat.
there is no ramp, you just launch off the river bank which is fairly hard sand.
I have not been there lately and can not comment on it's current condition.
The ramp off fishermans rd that was pointed out is a good ramp and probably better suited to large boats, if you boat is heavy or difficult to launch I would use fishermans rd or muller park.
