Hey Grunter, a mate and I just did one last Thursday night, but we left from the ramp on the other side. Everything was fine. I reckon because VMR is fairly isolated and no houses about it could make you a bit of a target.
Just been reading the thread about close encounters with ships overnight off Mooloolaba.
I am keen to do an overnighter on the Banks to see how much better the fishing is , however, my biggest concern is vehicle security overnight.
Several times I have left the Scarborough ramp at 4.00am and noticed cars with smashed windows etc.
I launch at the ramp next to the Mooloolaba VMR. Has anybody ever returned from an overnight trip and found that somebody has taken too much of an interest in their car or trailer? Is it a common problem or just an occasional event?

i lauch the boat at south side of the river off nicklen way its a great ramp sand on one side
u shoulde be safe leaving your car becasue there r houses there
the banks is a great spot jsut dont kept the borley goin at night or u will get a shark or to have a look at your boat it has happend to me before
i swear it was at least as big as the boat or more 7 meter coastal cat not fun
trust me good luck hope u get some woppers wat boat u got
we do overys out of the northside ramp and must say they have been very slow compared to our day time action although we could be targeting the wrong area in the dark too.vehicle security is a worry anywhere but we have had no probs so far (touch wood) just a word at night even without berley we have had some fun with big tigers at the side of the boat and let me tell you a 2am battle with a 10 to 12 feet tiger is no fun with bugger all sleep and as these guys have been our only action last 2 trips we will be reverting back to super early starts. but according to posts some lads do real well at night but that is not to say they are actually on the banks.
The last time we went out from Pt Cartwright there was a cop car parked at the boat ramp...we saw the bloke who parked it...seems like he's a local resident and uses his presence as added security...thought that was a nice touch
Cheers
Rhys
