    Stanage Bay - any tips?

    Hi,

Looking forward to a week long trip to Stanage Bay in April.

We havent been to the area previously so I am seeking some general tips on the area.

Our boats are 6 metres in length and we will be mainly chasing reef fish.

If the weather is poor we will try the estuaries.

So any help would be great.

P.S. For optus phone users - can you get reception at Stanage Bay?

    Thanks

    Shane

coraltrout, you will have a ball. was up there at xmas time and it was great as tony said give tony a call. tell him lippa sent ya (tony has been a mate for 15 years or more) best thing about the bay is there is no need to take everything in with you. bait and the like are all at brisbane prices! Can't wait for your report!

    cheers

Be prepared for the road in....friend of ours does the trip every year and swears you have to tackle it with speed (within limits), not take it easy. We did ok at the dukes one day, few reds and some trout, red throat and cod....the boat that went best i think travelled to white rock and morpet...i think they are marked on the charts. If the weather blows up like it did for us there are a few spots with 5-10min of the ramp but still inside the sound are woth a look...head across to the far eastern side and then head up the coast for a bit watching the sounder...we caught parrot, cod, fingermark on these spots...we were also lucky enough to find the jew hole which saved our trip and provided a few feeds to bring home aswell as probably the best fishing session of my life....had 2 triple hook ups and ended up pulling the pin after getting 12 between 3 of us in about an hour. Also worth a troll around the headland...big gear busting queenies were caught on our trip. And most off all watch the tides. If you want you can PM me and ill try rustle up our spots for inside the sound....cant give away any for outside as they arent mine to give.
