Gold Coast Reefs - GPS Mark Map

    Gday,

Since I got my first rig back in October ive been trying to locate decent fishing marks offshore on the Gold Coast. The internet being the wonderful thing it is seems to have different lists of gps marks etc.. Im yet to work out the accuracy or reliability of these marks but intend to in due course.

I have used Google Earth to mark certain co-ords into a more visual representation.

Hopefully those of you out there with a fairly limited range of fishing spots, like myself, may take some value in this so i thought i would share.

Basically it pinpoints spots, has a rough description eg. 36's E means 36 fathom reef East. and lists gps co-ords...

Additionally, if anyone can verify these marks to be way off track, ill modify the map.

I also collected pretty much the same marks from every website I could after lots of googling on gps marks and GC fishing. Then I also overlayed it on google earth.

Ive only visited a handful of the marks and found them all useless. Nothing there??? Went back to the websites and none of them mention what datum they use....but apparently that doesnt change things much.

I think you have to search around these marks a fair bit until you find the reef and start to collect your own marks. Thats what everybody else does.

Or buy a second hand gps from someone too lazy to delete his old marks

If you can verify any marks, then let us all know. We should start a PM club for marks. Theres a lot of guys willing to help ausfish mates, and they just dont want marks on the web where they can be seen by anyone with a google search.

i know what you are saying andrew... i think the spots listed are generally correct but probably need to sound around a few hunded square metres to find what you are looking for... or maybe they are just to distract the new fishos from the good spots... who knows

im just going to keep plugging away till i find some spots...

I'll be in that, I have a number of marks, some you may have some you may not.
I have no objection to sharing marks with you guys, but I don't think posting openly will win us many friends on the site, so if you are interested PM or email is probably the go.

    HI Heath,

    Ive had trouble with
    Seaway Pinnacles s27 56.936 W153 28.017
    mats Luck S27 56.820 W153 27.810
    12s S27 57.250 W153 27.00
    36s NE S27 48.250 W153 37.490

Bought a new matrix gps from USA, set the datum to WSG, and entered a lot of marks from various websites and mags. Only done a handful of trips outside in the last 12 mths and many marks seem wrong. I do find reef ok by myself and mark them, and get back to them ok. Just not reef on the marks Ive collected.

    Can you confirm these marks?

    Many thanks.

without checking the only one that would have any merit would be the seaway pinnacles.

Any marks where both the lat & long both end in 0 are to be taken with a pinch of salt.

I'll have a look at the others a bit later.

    Hi Gbanger,

iIve found the marks in 500 hot spots to be pretty reliable so far. I've found good bottom structure at the banks spot on in relation to the mark given.

    Hope this helps

    cheers
