    Fish ID

Does anyone know a good website or book which has a comprehensive range of fish that are caught predominantly offshore, SE Qld? I know there's the DPI website but not very user friendly (already have their reef fish book)........Being new to fishing the offshore grounds, it's pretty hard to know if a fish is legal if you can't firslty identify it!

    Any input would be appreciated........

    Thanks

    Re: Fish ID

Sometimes it is difficult to identify fish even with a nice thick book to refer to.
I picked one up from Big W that looked the goods and has helped me a few times.

Only thing to keep in mind... if you DON'T know what it is, take a photo of it and return it to the depths. Nothing worse than finding out you've killed a protected species (heaven forbid) or even filletted a noxious one ready for the plate

I've got a copy of Grants that is fully waterproof, can be taken on the boat if your in unfamiliar territory and get onto fish that you don't come across on a regular basis, bit more handy than the computer but a lot more expensive.

Hello, You may like to check these titles out,

Fish Guide Saltwater Freshwater & Noxious Species (QBD)
    Gregory's Australian Fishing (Australia Post)
    Australian Fish Guide (k-Mart)
Australian Fish And How To Catch Them (QBD)

I found these books excellent reading and reference. Not real waterproof though.
