Squid Light
Can someone tell me the best way to make a reliable squid light or if there is one available to purchase.

Re: Squid Light
Are you talking about a light to attract them to the boat/bridge, or a light to fix on the trace/jig?

Re: Squid Light
we used a large torch and shined it into the water at straddie.... we had the squid there for about 10 mins and then the dolphins came... that was the end of that u can buy glow sticks that fix to your line off ebay and prety much all tackle stores then use a squid jig underneath the glow stick

Re: Squid Light
the old man (god bless im) use to have a primitive set up,,,but it worked a treat,,, a glass jar with a srew top,,,, place a few pieces of lead in bottom,, pierce the lid with a nail,, and run a bulb attached to your wiring through the hole,,,seal with a smear of silicone around the thread of the lid,,, and seal up the hole while your at it,,,,,drop over the side of ya boat and let it sink to require depth and hook up wire to battery/cig lighter socket and wholahh,,,,he use to have 2 or 3 at a time going,,,, cheap, nasty,, but if 1 broke who cared,,,,
its funny to see what comes up out of the depths when theres a light glowing a few feet under the water,,,,steven spielberg must have got a few ideas from this i reckon
can it get any better??????????????,,,,,,,,,,,,,,http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hgG_TxEPaQE

Re: Squid Light
Choppa, did Dad drop a jig beside the light ?? Might sound a silly question but just wondering how he hooked up.

Re: Squid Light
Thanks guys for the info but i think i have found something good, they are the battery nav lights, waterproof & will sink to whatever depth i want.
Now i just need the weather to come good to try them out.

Re: Squid Light
dave,, yeh he fished the lights with jigs,,, and even used them in jervis bay on the prawns with dip nets,, i don't know the method behind his madness but when he had an overnighter on the inner banks outside sussex inlet in nsw he would occassionally throw a few over to liven up the bites,,, seemed to work a treat,,,, haven't done it myself due to the amount of time i get to throw the boat in the water restricts most of my fishn to daylight only
