    Brunswick heads / New Brighton

Heading down to Brunswick Heads / New Brighton area over the long weekend.

Never really fished down that way much before.

I was after some advice on where to get bait - land based looking for Yabbies.

Also, anywhere to buy some worms or are pippies plentiful on the beaches?

Does anyone know how the fishing has been of late down that way in the surf? Hoping some early season bream have found their way into the surf gutters...

    Chief!

hey chief ,i lived at pottsville for 5 years or so and there was always plenty of pipies on the beach ,also heaps of worms if you can get them.the boys used to get some big jew off the south wall at bruns,id say that would be a good spot to target bream,i fished quite a bit at black rock and always seemed to do allright,
northern nsw is one of the nicest places i have ever been, good luck

The beach between Wooyung and South Golden beach holds the most pippies and had some reasonable low tide gutters at Easter

Best yabbies in the mouth of Marshalls Creek , access by the road to the north wall,
    BUT,
Thanks to the greenie closure it will be out of bounds from the 1st of May From then on yabbies from the banks upstream from the bridge by boat

the beaches around ocean shores/new brighton are/were chockers with pippis, but i think regulations state u cant take them away with you, not sure have to check that one. apparently there are yabbies on the banks opposite the bruns pub, big bank exposed at low tide, cant miss it. Also have seen people pumping out the front of the camping grounds. bream are pretty prolific along both walls, remember both are accessible land based. The bream at the boat public boat ramp are massive but ive never seen anyone catch one, are they just too smart or too well fed? I've had success up around the highway bridge for good flathead too.

Beautiful part of the world, hope you have an enjoyable weekend. Dont forget to visit the pubs, particularly the Bruns (good food) and the billinudgel for something different (grab a humble pie while ur there). And the seafood resturant near the bruns pub, forget the name supposedly has the best calamari around, havent had a chance to try it yet. The co-op is pretty damn good too recommend the batterd mussels, so so sweet
