    Hi,

I only troll and the rig I use is as follows.

15-24kg main line with a leader about 6 metres long in 80-150lb joined to the main line using an allbright. On the end of the leader run a ball bearing snap. 60-90lb steel trace connecting the lure of about 30-45cm long.

    Want a troll run??

    Start at 28 11 376...153 36 743 (NE corner) and head towards SE Corner 28 11 905... 153 38 040.

Depth of water you need to be trolling in needs to be around 40 metres deep or if you are trolling the top off reef water needs to be about 40 meteres surround it.

Try a low early in the morning for best results.

Never stop motoring or moving after a hook up. Keep the boat moving forwards at 2 knots (in gear)

Colour in the Halco's 190 laser pros that has been working is the gold a greeny job.

"connect to lure 30-45cm" and "Halco 190s that have been working"
    doesn't seem to marry up

BB. sorry re my english....From the end of the leader use a ball bearing snap. I then use approx 30-45cm of multi stand wire using crips to connect to my lure. At present the colour that has been working for me in the halco laser pro 190 in shallow (2 meter) diver is the one in green and gold.

Actual colour code is R26...Golden Green

    Hows that better??

    Boodo,

are you getting busted off or bitten off? Either way, at least you are past the first post of actually hooking up. If you are getting busted off in the reef, they are not wahoo. If your main line is breaking, you need to adjust your drag setting. Bite offs are another matter which Steven has covered.

You do not need heavy tackle or high drag settings to land wahoo or spaniards. They tire quickly, so a moderate drag setting and some patience is all you need.

we used to troll for spanish quite a lot using coloured squid skirts. we found pink and reds to be the best but on occasions they would hit anything that was presented, on occasions when we were busted up we felt at times it was as a result of other spanish hitting our swivels. we used about 1 metre of wire from swivel to lure with 2 6/0 s/s hooks.it was not uncommon to have double hookups and a couple of times we had triples and landed all 3 which did get a hectec. we dont tend to do much trolling these days as we have been having great success live baiting (bag out most days) and with the price of petrol these days it doesnt hurt the pocket as much. anyway best of luck we have not had a good year with the mackeral (urunga) none so far, this time last year we were braining them.
