    What Colour Line?

    G'day All,

Just wondering what colour line you use offshore, and why?

I was using 2 of my game rods out on the banks.
One had clear / white platypus line and the other had fluoro green platypus line.

The fish wouldnt touch anything to do with the fluoro line ....

    Any thoughts?

    Cheers

    Pete

    Re: What Colour Line?

    hey grand marlin,
i,ve just been up to burrum heads while up there i went fishing with a bloke i met up there we fished the eight mile reef and got onto a hot mackerel bite but he was using fluoro line and couldn't get a touch every bait i dropped down got smashed he didn't get a fish all day. needless to say that was enough for me to be convinced not to use fluro line.

    cheers lochie

We just stick to the mossy green, although if you get a tangle its good to have different colours. Never tried fluro.

    Re: What Colour Line?

It wasn't offshore, but fishing with my mate on the breakwater into the surf at Iluka last year. My mate was using Platypus Platinum (clear) and I was using the fluoro green stuff about 6 metres away from him. I never got a touch, and he was pulling in the bream like they were going out of fashion.

The both of us were using same breaking strain line, same hooks and sinkers and the same bait.

I was bottom bashing on a reef off Prince of Wales island up in the Torres Strait last week using Shakespeare cajun red 40lb mono and couldnt get a bite while the other 2 guys in the boat were pulling fish in hand over fist! i think one of them was using 30lb braid, not sure of brand but it was a light green/grey colour, the other was using white/clear mono.

    Re: What Colour Line?

the last combo I bought for outside was pre loaded with bright green flouro, that with the sun on it lit up big time and never got a touch the first 2 trips while everyone else was getting hits. Took it off and replaced it with clear mono for the next trip and all was good with the world
Rainbow Trout is NOT skittle flavoured fish.........

    Re: What Colour Line?

I changed to Berkley Trilene "Sensation"

It is a clearish line with a tinge of moss green.

It is low stretch as well.

I bought 25lb and went straight to the hook with no leader.

Used in the bay last night and first impressions are that it is very good.

    Caught 3 Squire ... 2 sized, 1 under.
I did notice a lot of difference in th eattention my bait received... much improved over the fluoro line.

Hooks and rig was the same ... just changed the line.

    Cheers

    Re: What Colour Line?

Some people prefer the fluro line so they can keep a visual track of it when trolling or floating unweighted baits into cover etc. It shouldn't be too much of a problem if you use a reasonable length of clear trace with it in most situations.

    Re: What Colour Line?

depends wher your fishing... when your out in the bay id say clear or blue... but in the river i use smoke fireline which is black but it fades to white and green mono for bull sharks
