    Flattie Riggin

    Just fairly new at this game, but BY GOD I LOVE FISHING!!!

    I heard plastic lures are good for flathead.

    I normally fish the pine river, can anyone tgive me some hints about rigging specifically for flathead;

    Any one have any good info on Pine River, any good spots etc

    Normally a mad crabber, give us a call if your local and we'll go out.

    hey umm.

    1.live bait fishin-about a 4ft 80lb trace and a 3/0 on the end with a live mullet.
    2.bottem fishin/or bank fishin-a 20lb trace about 2 ft long and a resonable sinker 2 hold it 2 the bottem and mullet, yabbie and anything good 4 flathead on a 1/0 round hook or a long shank the same size.

    80lb trace That must be some serious Flatties your after mate.
    6-8lb Braid about 2m of same size leader in either mono or if your happy to spend some money flurocarbon (mono is fine in a nice green/clear colour not fluro pink or some other wild colour)
    3" GULPS or any other softplastic about a 2-4g jig head (depends on where your fishing how much water movment etc just remember as light as possible but still making good contact withe the bottom) with a 2/0 hook or there abouts.
    Find some nice drop off with weed beds on a sandy bottom start throwing it around.
    Couple of jigs wind up slack leave it sit for a few seconds repeat till Flathead grabs it. Once you feel the take wait a few seconds for them to take the SP completly than strike.
    Bring in your nice freshly caught flathead...
    Just remember the big ones are the breeders and its better to take a few smaller 45ish cm fish than 1 large 60cm+ female.
    Hope that helps.

    See the spoon rig on the flounder thread. Swap the hook for a 2 gang of 2/0's with a fresh herring, samll live poddy, or half a pilly.

    Don't say you don't have enough time. You have exactly the same number of hours per day that were given to Helen Keller, Louis Pasteur, Michelangelo, Mother Teresa, Leonardo DaVinci, Thomas Jefferson, and Albert Einstein.

    I think its just the way his old man showed him, the heavy trace stops it getting rubbed on the rocks in the last moments of the fight ( We were fishing for jew with live mullet when he got his big flattie, 5.2kg ).
