    Mackerals in Moreton bay still?????

    Just got back from o'seas, are there any mackeral still running in the bay anywhere?

    yeah, they are still there. i'm going tomorrow, try the 2nd last beacon if ur heading towards moreton island,

    I was there the w/end before last - second last beacon if en-route to Morton. Certainly Mackeral there - we had four lines out, two strip baits and two of us tossing a metal lures at the beacons (anchored up about 20m upcurrent)...

    Never actually *caught* a maceral, but plenty of slams on the retrieve of the lures resulting in tight then depressingly limp lines... amazingly never lost any tackle, but the mono line was stripped / frayed to the point where I could break a 40lb leader with two fingers - it had tiny mono "hairs" all over it - amazing!. Decided to trial a wire trace and not a hit...

    Uncomfotable slop started with winds picking up by 11am and decided to pull in the strip baits - BANG - a lovely little cobia .... wow they can look like Noahs coming up in the water...
