Hey Kela,
Sydney has heaps to offer the land based fisherman. Where abouts in Sydney are you ? this will help us give you a few locations close to home.

I fish mostly on the North side. Sydney harbour is good for fishing you can fish in most of the bays and things on the harbour. A few sposts I can easily think of are
Hen & Chicken Bay - on the parramatta river.
Fig Tree Bridge - Lane Cove River (near gladesville)
Spit Bridge - North of Syndey towards Manly
Balmoral - North of Sydney
All of these spots are good for catching your typical harbour fish, Bream, Flathead, Taylor and sometimes a few better fish too.
There are more spots on the Shore Fishing Australia website.

Take a look.

After the recent findings on the toxin levels in Sydney Harbour, I,m not sure I'd eat anything that came out of there.

Brooklyn can be a good spot but I've never fished it land based so I don't know what it's like casting from the bank. If you can get in close to some of the pylons I'd suspect you'd do well.
