Trolling for Tuna
Hey guys been a while since I have been here hope you all behaving yourself I was wonder can anyone give me any advice on trolling for tuna. Went out yesterday and had about 7 huge schools all around us, of course I have to drive! instructions of stay to the left of them, slow down your scaring them, no no turn the motor off! Bloody hell there must be a trick or a knack to it, We hooked up one that went 8kg but one tuna outta all those schools is pretty bad I think. How do I go about doing it.
thanks

Re: Trolling for Tuna
Mate give the trolling a miss, get a high speed outfit and a small 25g bumper bar lure and cast into them. Tuna feed on the surface mainly and troling over schools only sends them down deep. They work bait balls up tothe surface then smash them.

Re: Trolling for Tuna
yeah tun r the best if u have got some good reels / fast
try and find out wat thay are feeding on then chose a lure / slug that is that size cast in the milldle of them and let in sink for 5 sec casue the tuna think thay have hit the bait and its faling case its dead than crank it fast as bac to u u wll hook up ill put my life on it ok size of bait then drop and crank
when coming around them fast as then kil the motor then drift side by side to them and cast cats cats cats cast them there will be that much blood alover the boat when u gaff it

Re: Trolling for Tuna
g`day al,
i`ve found that the silver 25g bumper bars or the small whitebait looking slugs you get work best up here. like everyone else has said get the fastest gear you can and just keep casting into the school.
are you entering the predators comp? i`ve gotta wait to see whats doing with work but if i can i`ll be there. should be a good laugh.

Re: Trolling for Tuna
I was going to enter, but $50 seemed a bit sharp as an entry fee. Maybe just a tight-arse.
What breaking strain leader are you guys fishing for your tuna?
