For bay and offshore, Squid............straight off the trawler and snap frozen if not being used immediately. None of that crap they sell as bait. For estuary, Pin etc......fresh herring or whitebait.

Accepting that we use different bait for targeting different fish,.......... .........If you could only take one kind of bait ,............in your opinion, what would you consider to be the best universal bait to maxamize your chances of a catch?
Cheers
PS were only talking bait.......no lures.

Hey
hmmm....the best allround bait for me would have to be pilchards...
althought each bait can only go so far in cacthing different fish, For ME pilchards have caught plenty of my fish...
But that is when im not using lures
Offshore and beach/rock, squid, the fresher the better. Most versatile of them all, stays on the hook fairly well, not much that won't attack it.
Cheers!
If I could only take one bait it would be fresh - live squid.
Poddy mullet is great, you can fish them live for heeps of stuff and knock the little fillets of them for a good bait as well.
Live yabbies as well, they will just about catch anything
Morty
live herring!! if the fish are abit picky ill go to mullet strips
Hard to go past herring you caught on location, live or chopped into chunks, bloody good bait.
If around the Pin, it is hard to go past live yabbies as a bait for most things.
Out in the Bay I get most attention on prawns. #However, I don't use those emaciated little things that they sell as bait at garages and most bait shops. #I get whatever big ones are available at fish shops and/or some bait shops.
Pilchards follow as a second choice in the Bay. #Dunno why but I never have much luck on squid, frozen or fresh.
Squid
Squid aggrivates most fish...
Has anyone ever used beach worms offshore?
Why is all the good weather around on weekdays?
Pillies for me.
Cheers
Dave
Easy. FRESH Squid.
