    SouthPort Seaway help???

I have posted in the offshore section but need help on this topic asap.
Does any one know if their is a reef or underwater feature that fish hang around just of the seaway entrance if so can anyone give me a rough bearing to get to it as Im in a 4 metre tinny with 25hp engine no gps, epirb,or flares, just want to be able to get their within regulatory limits. Also how far down is the 1st artificial reef of Sufers Paradise from the Seaway. As I want to target Gewies, snaper, and big fish varieties this weekend any help appreciated as I will going out 5am Saturday Morning this weekend.

    Chris,

Use the "Search" function top of page between "Help" and "Members" search Seaway you'll find plenty. Your in the right section though Seaway isn't Offshore. Offshore is for Big Boats heading out wide.

Be "Super careful" around seaway in the 4 metre lots been written about swamping from crusiers down that way lately.

Doesn't matter if it is a canoe or a forty footer - you should have an EPIRB and flares anyway!

Guess you have some sort of marine radio and not just a mobile phone?

If you mainly use the broadwater area and you only have a tinnie and dont go more than 2 nortical miles ofshore you DONT REQUIRE THESE ITEMS.Plus I only go out in perfect conditions and still log my trip with the seaway tower.

schrammy79, the moment you leave the seaway YOU NEED FLARES, and if you go more then 2 miles offshore you need an epirb, just got this from http://www.msq.qld.gov.au/qt/MSQ.nsf/ReferenceLookup/rec_safety_equipment.pdf/$file/rec_safety_equipment.pdf all so http://www.msq.qld.gov.au/qt/msq.nsf/index/sps_brisbane
    hope this helps Ian

yeh definately at least need some flares, and upgrade your anchor/chain/rope while your at - you would be an easy target for fisheries/police and I reckon you will get inspected

perhaps start by live baiting around the seaway walls and sea how conditions fair, your a chance of some jewies around there

    Don't need flares!!!!!!!

I guess common sense isn't needed as well.....If only it was law to have common sense.

Isn't it funny how ppl only get things that are required by law and not for their own safety and for the others that are near them.

If you draw an imaginary line between the end of the north and south rock walls and go outside this line you are deemed to be in open water and require flares. If you venture more than 2nm offshore from there you will need an EPIRB.

The artificial reef is easy to find it is at Narrowneck and you will find 2 yellow markers in the water about 500m offshore and probably the same distance apart that state on them No Anchoring Allowed or something to that effect. The reef is made of sand bags and is between these markers and the shore.

    Cheers,
    Bruce.

Also i used to target the artificial reef alot but never caught jewies or snapper off there. Mostly tailor, trevally, whiting and bream. Occasionally big kingies and mackeral but very rare. Also Bonito are common and make great bait strips for the other species.

    Are you a good swimmer?

The reason you dont need epirb within 2 miles, is because you should be able to swim to shore from there. Dunno bout you, but Im a bit old for that, even tho I used to be a strong swimmer once. Good luck if you are that fit.

Theres plenty of good fish off the north wall, once you learn how to fish the spot. Use the search function.

    cheers

I apoligize to THE PINK PANTHER you are quite correct in regards to the flares aspect, I now will not be heading of the Seaway until I invest in some flares, thanks to all for the advice and imput.

    Cheers
    Chris
