I have used these gem eyed lures befour and had know problem befour.
1 I run it without trace or leader.and two Iam sure its what their feeding on.
today I could of walked on them!
true I have never sean them this bad, but what ever they were feeding
I didn,t have it.
But tommorrow it all could change and what I have could do the trick.
maybe just fussy fish.
I haven,t tried soft plastics befour on them but I will give them a try.
Its sounds good.
tunaman just use some slugs of various sizes, i always use 7 strand trace 30 or 40 lbs is enough you can change the visible profile of your slug with either a black nicko pen or a white paint pen (use on the trace as well) try differnt things and remember what works, you never stop learing, I struck a school that were only intrested in a 50g slug that was half whited out from top to bottem so it had a long thin profile visible (probably similar to sliders plastic profile) for colour i use black pen early & late and white pen when the sun is overhead. keep thinkin about what your trying to achieve or you will just wind your arm off all day.
No I was nurseing a hang over today feeling a bit seedy
maybe tommorrow.
Went fishing under the coastguard tower just got home
with three nice bream in the seven too eight hundred gram mark, just flicking mullet gut <no sinker> just floating it nexted to the pontoon
at the top of the tide.
Who cares about stinking football? I hate the stuff! Most of the drongoes who run around the oval are nothing more than a bunch of thugs. They are disgusting examples for young kids to model. Get rid of the stuff on the TV.
However, I musn't lose sight of the thread and the bait to use for mackeral. One of the top baits to use when all else fails are big fresh prawns. They must be real and not plastic. I have seen the mackeral having a feeding frenzy on prawns and wouldn't look at anything else.
Another great fresh bait to try are Grinners, see my previous thread on Super Mackeral Bait.
My gorgeous deckie was using half a prawn on a 3/0 suicide hook targeting Yellow Lipped Butterfly Bream. When she was winding the line in and only about 6 meters from the boat, a mackeral grabbed the half prawn and raced off with it. It put up a great fight. Prawns are a definite way to go. I dare to suggest that Grinners would be very suitable when fishing over sand like at Fraser Island.
