    Spinerbaits in saltwater?

Was just looking through my tackle box getting it ready for some tailor fishing and took all my fresh water lures out and wondered -

Does anyone use spinerbaits in saltwater ?

    If not why not?

Why are they only freshwater related?

Fisha re curious & predatory. I don't see why you wouldn't get some attention form various species witha good shiny/noisy spinnerbait.
Years ago when I first started work in Maroochydore my boss had a salt water fish tank. He was a madman, he'd throw anything that moved in there. We had one juvenile Barrumumdi Cod, a juvi Red emporer and a good sized bream, as well as many smaller species. The boss would go and catch the biggest huntsman spider he could find and the 3 big boys would fight over it, grasshoppers were also a delicasy. If they were hungry after a couple of days of no feeding, when we thought we'd fed them too much, they'd even go your finger if you dangeld it.

I'd say give it a go, you might start the next 'SP' craze.

It's nice to know spinnerbaits catch something. I've got a few of them and so far the return on them has been a big fat ZERO!!

I got this pic about two years ago when I was into seakayak fishing. I can't remember who sent it to me but I think he was a Sunshine coast bloke.

I tried to find out a bit more about pelagics on spinnerbaits at the time but drew a blank.

It is a legitimate pic. I would be interested if anybody can show me a bigger fish on a spinnerbait.

It's late and as I read your post i thought from a Kayak that'd been one hell of a ride tied to that mack'. Then I read a litte closer

I've heard rumours they are Jack killers, but I probably shouldn't mention anything!

I had the same thought late last year and purchased a 'Davo's Special' rom Davo's at Noosa. Look at this website www.fishingnoosa.com.au for the photo's of fish caught with that type of saltwater spinner bait.

I trolled around with the 'Davo's Special for about a week and didn't even get a touch on it. Tried gar, pillies, slimies, just about everything but the kitchen sink. It has now sunk to the bottom of the tackle box. I will give it one more go next year when the pelagics come back down. If it doesn't get hit then, I'll be selling it very cheap!

I'm sure on the right day it would get hit! Just wasn't that time while i was out there troolling it around. Maybe I was going too fast or slow with it? If anyone knows I'm keen to try it again with a different technique!
