Isn't there only 1 place in nsw to really get the odd spanyard!? If you need some help in Qld give me a pm i'll give you some locations. Most locations up this way are banned in a week anyway .
nah... there are about 5 or 6 locations that I know of that produce spaniards on a reasonably consistent basis in NSW (what I would consider consistent you would probably consider hopeless though!)
spun up an 8ish kg jew landbased about an hour ago in a suburban river in Sydneys inner west! got him on a killalure jewie 150 - not a big fish but they're hard to get on the spin in this particular spot... happy about that!
cheers thanks for the offer to point me to a few spots
thanks... yeah in the spots that I usually fish bait fishing off the beach is easily the most efficient way to get them (last 2 seasons anyway - not sure about this season, haven't really fished for them) spin in convenient though... don't really need much planning and you can have a quick after work bash and leave!
In other spots like Newcastle harbour, other Sydney spots (and probably a lot of the north coast of NSW) spin definately seems to be more effective than beach fishing though... I suppose it depends on the terrain hey?
I normally troll big bibbed lures for spanish but have caught many on floating pillies on gang hooks, whatever your approach go a short wire leader of at least 40pnd and big chromies are fun tocast out of the rocks.
But i think the gun way would have to be as jeremy said a livie under a baloon near a bait school.
do you find any particular colour to be more successful than others when trolling?
I bought myself a mack bait bibless lure (I think its called a mack bait) in green and yellow for hurling off the stones - casts well and sits in the water well under high speed retrieves without blowing out.
yeah I agree - my first strategy will always be to send a livie out where its practical (until a nail a few at least - then I'll start spinning for them!)
