I think manchild lives close enough to pick them up.

You could probably organise your own delivery.

Gotta say how lucky I am. There is a seafood prosessing plant just down the road that sells 10kg boxes of IQF pillies for $35. and they are the best ever pillies I have used. They IQF themselves and if you go in at the right time you can even get them fresh

Maybe their actually getting them into the freezers before they go off! I have noticed that they last well on the hooks in recent years compared to (well a long time ago), used to be 2 or 3 casts and the hooks came back bare, now they last pretty much until you get a bite.

The quality of the pillies you buy these days has become so bad that I have almost given up using them. You're lucky to get two casts out of one in the surf and they are so soft with broken skin and mushy flesh it's hardly worth the effort to try to take a fillet off them for bream bait. I find that garfish (which I catch and freeze) last ten times as long and still attract the tailor although I don't rate them as highly as pilchard as a bream bait

The place is called Markwell's Whole sale/Retail just up the road from the Chinderaf pub. Just make sure you ask for "barry" and that you want IQF blue pillies

My usual bait shop reckons he can only get the USA pillies at the moment - strange seeing as how the bay seems to have some reasonable runs of what some of the pros are calling sardines! (they look and smell just like a pillie, but bigger!)

Has anyone ever tried to put a cast net over the pilchard schools as they move up the coast? Could be quite exciting, especially with the munchies that feed on them
