Great BF.
I never said YOU were silly. What I said was this:-Originally Posted by Panda

Recently I was up in Bundaberg, and caught a fish I'd never seen before. It was relatively small, and went to grab it to unhook it, when the guy I was with yelled out to stop. Well it my first Happy Moment I'd caught. I didn't know that if I grabbed it, it would be a very bad idea... Same concept, and was the reason I wrote what I did.
The point I was trying to make is that if you don't know what the fish is, how do you know that it's not going to cause some serious problems... That's not having a go at you. There was no intention of getting you upset. When I said "Not meaning to be rude" I meant exactly that... I'm more than happy to keep a few fish for a feed. But I'm certainly not keeping anything I don't know what it is. In those cases, I take a photo of them just before I let them go. Then when I get the ID that I needed, I know for the next time I catch one.
As for any other shot you wanna take at me, go ahead. I stand behind what I said, and if that doesn't suit, then leave it at that.

All the same fish.......
Have any of you blokes studied any form of writing or heard of "passive "being refered to writing style. Its very difficult to determine who is being agressive or a humorist the way some go about it. The way I read most of it, its coming across as pedantic. God forbid.
So whats that green lookin fish above the alleged sweetlip? I cant make it out. Just curious.
more interested in the small breamy looking thing in the corner that is dwarfed by the 35cm fish..........haha........great read....
not sure of species but it could have a new name like 'panda-monium'
each to there own and after 40 years of fishing it would be a shame for such a character to go down with poisoning or hit with a hefty fine because the fish looked yummy..........but if 40 odd years of fishing is enough for you then go ahead by all means - i know i would prefer another 40 on top of that if the fish stocks last that long.
i wonder why you never saw those fish again in weipa? being so rare they may be close to extinction - well at least now anyway..haha
caught a few of those 'sand barra' up off mackay about 12 years ago....such a small fillet - would of had to have caught them in great numbers like the winter whiting to have a feed.
oh and i dont know what type of fish they are!!
have a great day and i will too.........

mmmm! don't want to get shot for posting here but it is a morwong - gold lined/netted - all very similar and not good eating - very soft mushy flesh if not bled, not put on ice immediately or cooked too long, yes I have tried them. The other photo you had, did the trevally have some long filaments off the dorsal fins at it does look a little like a diamond trevally other wise it could have been a Cale Cale which is caught up there.
panda - I have found that what at first seems to be criticism on this site is often just someone trying to be of assistance - pays to not respond to comments but wait see what others may say. sometimes it is justified, sometimes not . I was with a couple of mates up Cooktown and one caught what we were sure was a 6kg mangrove jack (or red reef bream or whatever some call it). None of us were certain thinking it could be one of the red bass etc variety so quickly took a pic and sent it back. After careful checking we found we could have kept it but we all decided afterwards that we would rather be here for a few more years and didn't want to be responsible for any falling out with authorities not to mention wives if something went wrong.
If you go back on postings here re "what fish is this" and it has obviously been kept then you will find that a similar response has always been posted "why did you kep it..........". in most cases the people are genuine, ignore those that aren't.

One of the sad signs of our times is that we have demonized those who produce, subsidized those who refuse to produce and canonized those who complain.
