where 4 livies on gold coast?

I have recently promoted myself from landbased fishing to boat fishing (only 3 weeks) I have a 4m allycraft with 25hp which I have modified a fair bit for my likes and needs.
I am installing a live bait tank and hate to admit only just figured out how to throw my cast net properly , so by the weekend Ill be ready for some action.
Though my problem is where am I most likely to get bait fish?
What type of burley could you suggest?
and finally what size hook for allround live bait fishing.
Any help and advice would be appreciated as Ive yet to get my feet wet with anything over 1kg.

any creeks with a bit a depth will hold poddy mullet. You should be able to find herring around structure such as bridge pylons, pontoons and jetties. Look for them on your sounder. I don't use burley to attract live bait, takes too long.

Hook size varies to suit the bait you are using, from 2/0 to 6/0, and 4/0 is about average and hook the baits in front of the first dorsal fin or through the top lip. Use around 1m of 40 lb trace with it.

Last time I was down the Gold Coast it took me almost 2 hours of throwing the cast net from the Gold Coast Hwy bridge to Seaworld to get some herring, but it paid off with my biggest flathead of 88 cm.

thanks 4 the tip I will try if the weather holds out.
As for the 1kg reference I meant landing a fish (any) over 1kg
Thats why Im researching live bait as everyone sez its the best way to catch larger fish , if any one else reads this feel free to throw in more tips as I am a keen learner
Thanks to jeremy for his input

Living near the gold coast seaway Ive heard fish such as tailor , trevally , jewfish , flathead aswell as others are being caught consistently at the north tip of the north wall.
But my main target species is sitting quietly underneath waiting for the heat to come , I am talking of the mighty mangrove jack!
Never caught one but bugger me if Im not this summer , just a little practise with live bait and Im away.
Plenty of hiding spots for them in the estuarys on goldie with fallen trees bridges and rocky cavey areas.

Mate, there's usually a heap of livies around the bridges in the broadwater, especially at the top of the tide. There's also a spot on the NE side of crab island where there are often livies flicking in the current lines on the high.

    Hope this helps.

Hey Gutzy... If you head to Dave Downies (nugget's) website... he has an article on it called seaway tactics... very informative and will get you started with the basics of targeting good fish in the seaway. I dont know the web addy but I have seen the link here somewhere... keep looking you'l find it and heaps of other good info.

mate, just head towards the marina and you'll get your live bait, heaps of them. another good spot is in front of the VMR jetty, plenty there and you can even catch squid.
