    Home made slugs

I've spent half the morning looking for an old post re slugs made from old cutlery. Any help finding this would be appreciated. Not much work due to weather.

My uncle and dad used to use old silver teaspoons years ago.

Cut the handle off, drill hole each end.

Hook one end, line to the other end. bash the curved spoon part to make it move and swim differently. Thjis was done at the time of fishing, just watched how it moved and bent it as needed.

Worked wonders for trevally and tailor off the rocks round culburra, crookhaven river, currarong, jervis bay area.

If you use those long skinny barrel sinkers and scrape or polish the lead with a knife or steel wool. And clamp it to the line (softy) just above the hook, They work just aswell as slugs... When you find a school feeding that is. Also leave a nice little bubble trail.

P.S. I only do this when the fish are on the bite and ive run out of slugs.

No necessity to clamp the sinker to the line Ben. The only time that the sinker will move away from the hooks is when a fish has been hooked and it headshakes. And this is exactly what you want the slug to do. Then you effectively have a Slider.

Flick. A pro wormer here has been using knife handles for years with some success. Simply drills holes each end with a split ring through the hole to attach hooks and swivel. Hooks at the thinner, lighter end and swivel at the heavy end. He keeps complaining about dropping tailor though.

Thats what i'm after lindsay. There was a thread, possibly by chris aka gwh re with photo's. I would love to have the capacity to do what you do but don't have the time at the moment to ponder. Rainy days seem good for destroying the silverware. I appreciate the idea of using the lures weight to throw it, however, until I, you, somebody produces your slider commercially, I am stuck losing the odd tailor.
When the day comes that you would like to take the next step, there are ways of producing and promoting without digging into your own pocket.
Thanks again guys, I want to make some and trial before a trip to weipa next year, i'll keep searchimg for the thread.

I crimp it to the line so hopefully the fish with teeth (tailor) cant bite me off.

Ben, use wire for tailor when using any slider - you will not suffer a reduction in the number of strikes attained and you will beach more fish.
Mackerel and tuna require different configurations when using sliders, but no less successful than any other slug.

Thought that was the idea of Ausfish Jim, to be able to share knowledge and help others where possible.

At Heaven's gate a soldier stood,
    his story ready to tell,
St Peter said, 'no need my son all is understood,
Go right in cos you've already served your time in Hell'

If you ever stuff your cast net beyond repair, keep the sinkers, they work great as slugs.

That was Winston Churchill Perrin - the human orca George. Had lots of success on spark plugs. Mind you that was before James Cook discovered Australia and I know he feels about 300 years old after the session we put in at the High Tide Hotel today.

Reminds me of the idea I had for rigging a gang hook with a skirt made out of a shiny foil chip packet.

I've mentioned this before but I don't think anyone was listening.
