Rain and fishing????

If it rains to much and their is to much run off in the saltwater is their less chance of actually catching fish?????Cause of all the fresh water around as Im looking at going to Cabage tree pt on Saturday morning and wondering if its worth while

With all this rain your best bet would be the mouths of these creeks and drainage systems. Find the line where fresh is mixing with salt and the bite will be better as the food has been washed down and all the water is very dirty.

Im going to the mouth of the maroochy river in the hope for some action this weekend. In the hope to avoid all that durty rain water.

Hi schrammy79, Ill be doing the exact same thing.. Are you boating? If your going to cabbage tree to put in. your best bet is the jumpinpin or the mouth of the logan! Its fairly shallow all the way along between the powerlines and the mouth of the logan, except for 1 narrow deep channel right at the mouth that the fish school and hunt in. I find the predetory fish are usually there in force after the rains and loads of choppy tailor there at the moment.

But whats been showing up alot lately are these massive herring looking things. Does anyone know what they are?? Ill take a pick of 1 before throwing it back next time. (They are about the same size as tailor and bite on white bait and pilly's)

Yes I will be boating and planing to launch about 530am-600am @ Cabbage Tree Pt boat ramp and heading up to past the grave yard

gday bendover. probably tarpon mate. do they give you some great aerials when hooked? thats all i can think thatd look like a bit like tailor and go pillies.

Thanx cuzz, never even thought of tarpon but now you mention it.. I think thats exactly what they are. Big scales, large downwould mouths and green backs. I thought they where just big herring . Do you know how big they get, because ive seen tarpon on tv that are massive... Wouldnt mind getting a bigger 1 of them as these ones fight like hell and are only about 27 cm and dont weigh much.
