Hi guys going to noosa in a couple of days any where to catch squid in the river
Hey mate i lived and fished in noosa for about 9 years, i've never heard or seen of anyone catching squid in noosa river and i've never seen one in the river itself. So i dunno about catching them in there, but anythings possible.
if anywhere I'd try the hole at the rock wall at the mouth on an incoming tide with very little swell
Noosa sound works well for squid check in davos tackle on the brag board my mate has his pic there with about a dozen big tiger squid caught right behind the restaurant off thier lil pontoon several yrs ago

Which restaurant would this be ? Would it be the ricky ricardos(restaurant recently closed down) pontoon in the Woods bay?Originally Posted by mangajack
This is some very poorly remembered second hand information, apparently squid dont do rivers this is linked to the range of salinity in which they can live. So only open ocean and foreshores to chase them.
Some one on here may be able to give a better explanation.
you can catch squid well into rivers i have caught several over the years at deep water bend and also caught a lot between tripcony bight and coochin creek i have also seen plenty near the boat ramp in cabbage tree creek over the years too.
As for in the noosa river they are there and in good numbers every winter its quite easy to catch a good feed of squid up as far as tewantin.
The lagoon that used to be on rainbow beach also used to supply excellent catches of big squid while that lagoon existed and i know several ppl who have caught them in the lagoons at yellow patch too
Just because it is landlocked is not reason to not have squid there
The restaurant is accross the bridge from munna point and first left right at the back of the small shopping centre there I don't know who runs it anymore it has changed hands nearly as often and ive changed my jocks it seems.

I sit here corrected, I've never considered fishing rivers as a result of the well argued advice I received concerning salinty levels. The expert even had figures and stats to back up the argument, justs goes to show, take every thing with a grain of salt.
Ok well i will go and try the noosa river for squid tomorrow, what do you use to catch them ?
mjc85, I just use 3.5 or 4.0 size yo-zuri prawn style jigs cast out let sink to the bottom and slowly retrieve them just above the bottom.
