    Re: PINE RIVER FISHING SPOTS

The boulder wall is on the paper mills grounds every hour there is a security patrol driving past there somehow i don't think they would take kindly to ppl hanging around the facility esp when it is right beside the settlement ponds be too much danger of someone drowning there in the muck

Being a Mangrove Jack tragic with unfortunately a disproportionate amount of hours spent trying to catch a jack compared to number of fish landed, 2 fish compared to about one zillion hours spent targeting them, I would be extremely interested to hear from any one who has boated a jack in the Pine.
Times, tides, moon, baits etc etc etc and maybe a few spot X's??? (wishfull thinking I know)

br65 Jacks can be caught at a lot of locations along both the north and south pine rivers. I have caught one up at the rail bridge at bald hills on the south pine and prolly about 10 or so down to the junction over the yrs. In the north pine the furtherst up i have nailed one is behind the cop shop in petrie on a lure (my only lure caught jack in the pine system) and at least a dozen down to the junction.
Below the junction i have nailed 3 from the bridge and two from deep water bend reserve. I have also nailed one good sized one from the mouth of the little creek opposite Bald Hills creek.

All up i guess it would easily be 30 jacks in as many yrs i have pulled from the pine all but one was released.

Best bait for them is a large live prawn on a bare hook with no lead cast at anything you would try a cast at for a bream. I have got two only on live mullet or fish. Prawns are the shot and quite easy to get most times of the yr if you know the river holes.

    Cheers Jack,
spent most of my time previously up the passage in Coochin, Elimbah, Glassy creeks or at Roys.
I havent given the Pine a serious go for the red fish, but I definately will next summer.
How about Newport Waters canals, have you ever pulled any jacks from out of there?

    Re: PINE RIVER FISHING SPOTS

Jacks are easy and common in Newport Waterways hard part is tho contending with the land owners down there they dont usually like ppl throwing lures near thier boats

In the marina in Newport at night a mate and I have caught 7 for one session working the edges of the shadows with live prawns and shallow divers.

I would imagine that most marinas with decent tidal flow would be producing similar results.

There are also a lot of estuary cod in newport and some of those are unstoppable now basically I have been done over at night by several cod with visible takes just metres from the boat.

I have also been hearing recently (three weeks ago) about something wild and fast down near cabbage tree creek marina at night hitting free swimming prawns my guess would be a decent jack

Another good location for jacks used to be the container terminal at fishermans island before the terrorism lock down of the area. All boats get hunted out of there now quick smart.

I used to go under the terminal and fish out into the edge of the bright lights for jacks it didnt matter if you were near snags or not they hunt the edge of the light heavily after about 8 or 9pm never caught one there earlier in the evening then 8pm.

It was also a thumper bream location at night too often would be scoring 1.5-2.5kg fish there

We never used any lead there just worked the surface area near the edge of the shadows was fast and tight fishing usually
