i would go for a devil fish

but if it had a couple of big spines sticking out of its back i would say stone fish.

I counted the vote on species through threads;

Stone fish = 2

Devil fish = 3

Frog fish = 5

Stargazer = 6

Final answer is Banded frogfish or Halophryne diemensis in latin/technical speak!

Mission beach NQ, didn't take the camera but he could of been the twin of yours.I just let him have the hook, didn't fancy touching him.
