Most likely a crescent perch Terapon jarbua. The 3 lines on the body and the distinct lines on the tail distinguish it from the striped trumpeter which is P. quadrilineatus.

i have also caught the so called "cresent perch" and have wondered what they are i now know . I also catch a type of freshwater perch very similar to that at collegescrossing and wivenhoe damn im not sure what they are. They are the same sort of shape and pattern but are yello and black striped.

    Re: another id please?

Jimmybob have you got grants? i don't but my dad does and it is listed in there as a stripped or banded trumpter. I am 99.9% sure that this is what it is as i did a study on it way back in grade 7 I was lucky that we had a mangrove study at out school and spent an afternoon down near the hornybrook bridge each week for half the yaer or something.. anyways can someone who has grants do a quick search to try and sort this ID out?? if not i will take a pic of the grants page its on and post when i get over to my dads again..

    cheers

    Re: another id please?

ok i think we are all right

    Australian Museum, 2006 Cresent pearch
    http://www.amonline.net.au/fishes/fi...h/tjarbua2.htm

WA Museum has it listed as a yellowtail trumpeter and the search for banded trumpeter came up with the same pic. but it is also called a cresent pearch. would post the link but the page dosn't want to load, if you do a google for banded trumpeter you will see the pic i am talking about and the name the WA museum calls it I still believe that Grants have this as a striped/banded trumpter!! although i found a WA species that is HUGE and dosn't look the same

    cheers
